Why LumberSearch?

We are specialists...

We specialize in the lumber and building supply business, primarily to contractor-oriented independent lumberyards. This industry is our lifework. It's our full-time job to do the legwork required to locate candidates who meet our clients' hiring criteria.

Owners and managers are busy executives who are rarely able to take several weeks away from their other duties to conduct a thorough search. LumberSearch is in the business of providing this service for our clients.

We take detailed steps to find the right employee...

Position Specification - When we accept a search, we conduct an extensive interview with the client to make sure we understand the precise background and behavioral style that the position requires. With the information collected from the client interview, we prepare a detailed position specification.

The two-page position specification describes the company, the salary range, whom the position reports to, the duties, and the accountability of the job. But most importantly, it provides a detailed description of what psychological or behavioral characteristics the ideal candidate should possess.

The position specification is also an excellent tool to ensure that both our clients and LumberSearch share a common vision for the person who will best fit their needs.

The position specification is a benefit that is included in the fee of the retainer search. If a contingency search client requests us to prepare a position specification, there is a $300 fee.

Professional Interview - Using the position specification and the accountability of the job as a guide, LumberSearch customizes 50-70 in-depth interview questions that we use to screen the finalists for the job. We electronically record these interviews and provide access to the client so the client can gain additional insight into each finalist before committing to the travel expenses required for a face-to-face interview.

Behavioral Testing - With the client's permission, we administer a battery of reasonably priced behavioral tests to help the client determine how well the innate characteristics of the candidate mesh with the requirements of the job.

Background Checking - We have partnered with a leading provider of background check services.  Our standard background check process includes the tests necessary to avoid liability for negligent hiring.  We also recommend DMV checks for employees who will be operating a vehicle for company purposes.  The background check is an integral part of making sure we are working with high quality candidates... and no surprises.
