Our Process

There are several qualities that set LumberSearch apart from other staffing and placement firms. First, we focus exclusively on serving independent contractor-oriented lumber and building material dealers. We have more than a decade of specific experience in recruiting and placing managers and other professionals in this industry. Second, we are as concerned with your business results as you are. Our recruiting practice is a consultative process where we work together with you to specify all of the critical factors you are seeking. Finally, we have a proven, long-term track record. We are as concerned with your business results as you are. We locate candidates wo are stable, solid performers that are most likely to succeed in your business.

Types of Searches

Retainer Search - In a retainer search, we work closely with our clients to find the person best suited for the job as described in the position specification. LumberSearch conducts a thorough search for candidates and screens out all those not meeting our search criteria.  We also evaluate any potential candidates the client provides through their own search efforts.  On a retainer search, the client makes a commitment to LumberSearch by paying us a retainer to evaluate all candidates in order to identify the best candidate.  LumberSearch makes a commitment to the client by focusing on the search until the right person for the job is found and by utilizing our experience in evaluating candidates to find the one best suited to our client's unique needs.

Contingency Search -
In some cases, clients hire LumberSearch to provide candidates on a contingency basis.  We match candidates to the particular needs described by our clients.  The fee for our service is earned if an individual is hired within one year from our original date of the referral of the candidate to your firm.  While we will be glad to conduct professional taped interviews, the cost is not included as it is on a retainer search.

Fee Structure

Retainer Search - $5,000 plus reasonable travel expenses, if necessary.  We invoice $2500 of the retainer fee after the recruiting contract is signed and $2500 after the position specification as been approved.  If the candidate ultimately hired was found by LumberSearch, the $5000 retainer fee is subtracted is from the 25% professional fee.  If the candidate was provided to LumberSearch by the client, there is no additional fee beyond the retainer fee, travel expenses and any psychological testing.  A recruiting assignment typically takes 30 to 90 days.

Contingency Search - 25% of the new employee's annualized guaranteed pay during the first year on the job.

Exception for Contingency Search for a person paid on Commission - Since it is difficult to determine the income level for a person who is typically paid a commission, our recruiting fee is 25% the previous year's W-2 income for each salesperson hired, or 25% of the initial annualized guarantee, whichever is higher.

Psychological Tests - $196 for a battery of three tests. This includes scoring, interpretation, and an extensive write up.  Tests are administered to all potential candidates, but a fee is only incurred when the the client requests a write-up for a specific candidate (usually the top 2 or 3 finalists for the job).

Professional Interview - $100 per hour to design the interview, conduct the interview, and tape record the interview.  The fee for a typical interview would be $200. The professional interview is provided at no charge for candidates we present to our clients as part of a retainer search. The professional interview is a service that many clients use for important hires where they found a potential candidate through their own search efforts.
